10-Minute Stickhandling Drill
Goal: soft hands and puck/ball control without looking down.
What you need (off-ice)
- A stick and a ball (green biscuit, golf ball, or street hockey ball)
- A flat surface (garage, basement, driveway)
1) Stationary handling (3 min)
- Wide forehand to backhand, smooth and controlled. 1 min.
- Narrow quick touches, 1 min.
- Figure-8 around two objects (water bottles), 1 min.
2) Moving stickhandling (4 min)
- Walk forward while handling. Head up, don’t look at the ball.
- Weave through cones or shoes. 4 reps.
3) Toe drag and pull (3 min)
- Pull the ball from forehand to backhand using the toe of the blade
- 10 reps stationary, then 10 while walking
Stickhandling can be practiced every day at home. 10 minutes a day compounds fast.
